Thyroid disease and adrenal fatigue
The thyroid gland is responsible for slowing down or speeding up the metabolism. If it is underactive you can experience fatigue, aches and pains, weight gain, poor mental function, intolerance to cold, chronic fatigue syndrome and depression. Almost all high and low thyroid cases are autoimmune.Thyroiditis, a disease characterized by an inflammation of the thyroid itself. This puts the body in automatic crisis.
Autoimmune illnesses have skyrocketed in the last generation, attributed to an increase in our exposure to toxic chemicals. Proper diagnostic procedures will help determine the problem. Treated with a multifaceted approach has been proven to be the most productive, involving not only prescriptions but also diet, exercise, special proteins and herbal remedies.
Adrenal Fatigue
Cortisol is a hormone produces by the adrenal gland. This is a chemical compound that keeps us energetic. It increases blood sugar, energy level, blood pressure, and also neutralizes inflammation.
The beneficial effects of cortisol are:
- Mood enhancement
- Work capacity
- Stress resistance
- Stimulation of immune defenses
- Anti-rheumatic action
- Anti-pain action
- Enhancing mental functions
Adrenal fatigue in mild or sever forms is usually caused by some form of stress. Stress, can be physical, emotional, physiological, environmental, and infectious or a combination. Often the causes of adrenal fatigue are not obvious, because the combined stresses are masked by our daily routine, meaning that we perceive them as just a normal part of our every day life. Attributing symptoms to work or family problems we just see it as a necessary evil something that we can not avoid. Because we have conditioned our body to such heightened levels of stress we may not get any indication that something is wrong. One of the more common overlooked sources of stress and resistant adrenal fatigue is chronic or severe infection. Adrenal fatigue is often precipitated by bouts of bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma, sinusitis or other infections. If there are other concurrent stresses, such as unhappy marriage, poor dietary habits, or a stressful job the down hill ride is deeper and steeper.
